It’s finally here: Girl Scout cookies are on the market. Prowl your closest supermarket or shopping mall between now and April for the familiar green Girl Scout booth and stock up on popular cookie flavors like Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs, available only during the short, fleeting Girl Scout cookie season. It behooves you to stock up; hoarding boxes is not unheard of.

And if you’re a fan of Girl Scout S’mores, you’ll definitely want to consider a bulk order. Scores of cookie fiends will have their fill this season with the return of the crowd favorite. S’mores cookies, which debuted in 2017, became the most popular flavor that Girl Scouts has ever seen, and this year marks the cookie’s much-anticipated, triumphant return. Available in two flavors, one is double-dipped in chocolate icing, the other is filled with marshmallow and chocolate and sandwiched between two crunchy graham cookies.

Girl Scouts announced that more than 1 million girls sell cookies each year, bringing $800 million in total sales last season. Their popularity has carved out a special place in people’s hearts (and pantries). One hundred percent of cookie sales each year benefit the local Girl Scout council and every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) build entrepreneurial skills to lead and gain valuable life-changing experiences. Girl Scout cookies sales vary between cities, so check the Girl Scouts official website for exact date and locations.

Elsewhere, sommeliers and cicerones are abuzz with Girl Scouts cookie launch. Beer & Brewing Magazine’s editors compiled a comprehensive cookie-and-beer pairing to celebrate the lauded season. The crowd favorite graham cracker sandwich, S’mores, complements sweet or roasty stouts well and contrasts even better with tart, fruity sour beers like Breakside Brewery Passionfruit Sour Ale.

Doyle’s Vineyard in Durham, North Carolina, is also celebrating the kickoff of 2018’s cookie season with a special Girl Scout Cookie and Wine pairing event so people can discover their favorite decadent duo. Cookie and alcohol pairings, to some less epicurean, may seem like a gastronomer’s idea gone too far. But Thin Mints and Brunello takes cookie-eating to a whole new level. Scout’s honor.

Girl Scouts Want You To Stop Buying Cookies On Amazon

By Cooking Panda

Oh, Girl Scout Cookies. The popular organization’s legion of fans eagerly await Girl Scout season every year to stock up on boxes upon boxes of their favorite cookies; however, sometimes the craving strikes and there are still months to go before Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils and more are available to purchase.

Therefore, sometimes fans will turn to Amazon to pick up a box of their preferred Girl Scout Cookie flavor, even though the prices are usually much higher to purchase from the huge online retailers than they would be if you ordered directly through a Girl Scout.

You might think that’s a fair price to pay to snack on the cookie you’re craving, but according to Popsugar, the Girl Scouts actually would prefer that you just save your cash and wait to purchase a box from them when they’re officially offering.

“We caution against purchases of Girl Scout Cookies found for sale online at auction and via community list sites, such as eBay and Amazon, because GSUSA, your local Girl Scout council, and our licensed cookie bakers cannot guarantee the freshness or integrity of these cookies,” a Girl Scout representative told Popsugar. “In many instances, these cookies are actually expired. Further, purchasing cookies in this way does not support Girl Scouts participating in the cookie program.”

Here’s the thing, folks: Girl Scout Cookies are very nostalgic for some people, so it’s understandable why a person might choose to purchase an overpriced cookie online — sometimes, substitutes just don’t cut it.

However, the Girl Scouts represent some pretty important and empowering causes; it really is better to just save up your cash and purchase straight from the source when the time comes.

Additionally, the Girl Scouts have been producing lots of different kinds of alternate products that are sure to, at the very least, tide you over until the real cookie season comes. Why not pick up a box of Girl Scout cookie-inspired cereal, or some of their cake mixes, or even try out a few copycat recipes of your own until the season is upon you?

In the meantime, make sure to check out this link to find out where you can purchase cookies near you.

This Girl Scout Makes A Hilarious Sales Pitch (Video)

By Cooking Panda

It’s Girl Scout Cookie time again! These ladies are on the prowl for anyone who might break down and buy a box of Samoas or Thin Mints. Some will even go so far as to reach out with lengthy and honest sales pitches.

In the video below, you’ll see that Mike Rowe from the T.V. show “Dirty Jobs” received one such sales pitch. Apparently, a friend/co-worker of his has a daughter who sells Girl Scout Cookies. When she heard that her father’s best friend from high-school was pretty well-off, she hopped onto her dad’s email account and sent a lengthy sales pitch from his email. The father found this sales pitch in his “sent” folder, and got it in the right hands for her.

Rowe can’t keep from laughing and smiling while reading the witty descriptions for each of the cookies, which were included in the letter. Young Charlotte introduced herself and made sure to include a link to her website, which Rowe will show you as well (in case you’d like to go and pay tribute). She begins by letting her reader know that sometimes the Girl Scouts can commit false advertising offenses, and that she’s here to give her honest opinion on each cookie.

The lemon cookies get a decent score for their perfect balance of sweet and sour, while the peanut butter cookies get a pretty good score for being great with hot drinks. Samoas and Thin Mints are clearly her favorites and she has yet to try the S’mores cookie flavor. However, I think it’s safe to say Charlotte recommends staying as far away as possible from the “Bleak, flavorless, gluten-free wasteland” of the Toffee-tastic cookie. Don’t say she didn’t warn you!

The only reason no cookie got a perfect score of 10 is because the perfect box is a donated box, the clever 11-year-old explains. That’s when the sales pitch sneaks right in on you. Donate a box to the troops! Her goal is to sell 300 boxes, but I’m sure with Mike Rowe’s help in garnering interest, she’ll sell a whole lot more. Check out the video to hear the whole letter.

Girl Scout Cookies Are Getting A New Flavor And We Are Stoked!

By Cooking Panda

August 10 is National S’mores Day! To celebrate this delicious holiday, the Girl Scouts are making a big announcement. They are marking 100 years of their organization and introducing a new s’mores cookie flavor!

The Girl Scouts report that there will be two variations of the new cookie: a graham cracker cookie dipped in icing and then coated in chocolate (3 boxes for me, please!) and a graham sandwich cookie with a marshmallow and chocolate center. Both should be enjoyed with milk, of course. While the sandwich cookie is more traditional to the s’more name, the chocolate dipped cookie is calling my name. Everything is better dipped in chocolate!

According to People Magazine, it’s only fitting that the Girl Scouts come out with a new s’mores cookie on this anniversary, since they were the ones to popularize this campfire treat in the first place. They first dubbed it the “Some More” in 1925, then the name changed to “somemores” that same year. S’more seems to be the most fitting name, since we can never get enough! What a great way to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts.

The cookies will debut in 2017, so don’t get too excited yet. We still have some waiting time. For now, The Girl Scouts are asking us via Facebook to share our favorite way to s’more. It looks like there are countless ways to enjoy a s’more, so let’s join in on the conversation. What’s your favorite way to s’more?

DIY Girl Scout Cookie Mixes Now Available In Stores Year Round

By Cooking Panda

Everybody has their favorite Girl Scout Cookie flavor, but not all of us have it together enough actually to get our hands on an authentic box when Girl Scout season rolls around.

Between myself and my mother, we are infamously terrible at acquiring the treats when they’re available (I haven’t had a genuine Tagalong in probably 11 years), which is weird because I think about them a lot. More than the average not-actually-a-Girl-Scout person probably should, actually.

Which is why when Pillsbury announced its new licensing relationship with Girl Scouts of the USA to bring to market Thin Mint and Caramel & Coconut (read: Samoa) Flavored Baking Mixes — based off two of America’s most popular Girl Scout Cookie flavors — I low-key lost my cool.

“We are very pleased about our licensing relationship with Girl Scouts of the USA, as our brands share a similar personality of happiness and fun—a common characteristic of bringing people together,” Maribeth Burns, Vice President, Corporate Communications, The J.M. Smucker Company, said in the press release. “We hope these fan-favorite flavors encourage baking amongst friends and family alike.”

The new baking mixes will allow you to “recreate the crave-worthy flavors at home” in the form of cupcakes, blondies and brownies. The products are free of added colors, preservatives and artificial flavoring agents.

The Pillsbury Girl Scout Cookie Flavored Baking Mixes are retailing at a suggested price of $3.29, and are available wherever groceries are sold nationwide. You can visit for recipes and product info.

Now all we have to do is cross our fingers and wait for a Tagalong iteration to emerge…
