Is anybody else getting some serious purple-and-green ketchup bottle flashbacks here?

If you’re a fan of the franchise (or possibly just Chris Pratt), you are probably well aware that the new movie “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is making its debut in theaters on May 5.

In celebration of that fact, the ever-popular snack brand Doritos decided to release its classic cheesy triangle chips in a brand new hue and flavor — emerald green, to be exact, as a limited edition Supernova flavor.

These things are green, ya’ll.

Like, really green.

According to Food Beast, the Supernova Edition of Doritos are flavored like zesty lime with a subtle kick of black pepper as well, but no word yet on whether or not they stain your tongue green, like those hot pink Peep Oreos did to so many people.

If you’re in Australia, you can pick up a bag of these chips in the snack food aisles of participating grocery retailers in Australia.

The rest of you will just have to scour the internet to try and nab yourself a bag if you are a true rare-chip collector, or else just a massive fan of the movie franchise.

How will you be celebrating the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”?

Are you going to try and get your hands on these limited edition chips and give them a taste? Or are you content to munch on your tried-and-true, preferred movie theater choice as usual, and save all the excitement for the screen and after-movie discussion with your friends?

Doritos Is Bringing Back A Fan-Favorite Flavor!

category:

By Cooking Panda

Well, we think Doritos is bringing back this flavor … although it’s just a rumor as of right now. The fan-favorite “Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch” has been allegedly spotted recently in different locations around the country. Could it be true?

Delish reports that Doritos is “reviving the chip that fans have been begging for…” There’s even a Facebook fan page for the popular chips, so you know these fans are serious. It’s been reported that a bag of the Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch Doritos was spotted in October 2016 by one Facebook user fan in New York. He even said that samples were being given out at a Frito-Lay warehouse in that state. “I think you all might just get your wish,” he posted, referring, of course, to everyone’s wish to see this flavor return. “I think they are coming back.”

In mid-December 2016, there was another reported sighting of the same flavor in Oklahoma. This fan was even bold enough to post that the chip would be back in January 2017. How does anyone know for sure, though? No one else has been known to mention any report of the chip’s return, but there was a random sighting also posted by a Flickr user showing the baby-blue bags on a shelf in an unnamed store. It’s looking pretty positive so far for fans … but nothing has been confirmed yet.

On the other hand, Doritos has plenty of flavors you can enjoy in the  meantime, including the Doritos Jacked Ranch-Dipped Hot Wings flavor. As Frito-Lay suggests, these chips are “Bigger, Bolder,” and “Thicker” than previous flavors. Who knows? Maybe cult followers of the Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch flavor would like this one even better? Otherwise there are plenty of Doritos Mix varieties to choose from, as well as new flavors like Spicy Sweet Chili and Salsa Verde.

You can find these flavors as part of a list of all that Doritos has to offer on the Frito-Lay website, so check it out and see what you’d like to binge on until it’s time for the return of the much-loved Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch flavor. We’re feeling pretty optimistic!

These New Doritos Will Blow Your Mind (Photos)

If you’re a Doritos fan, you might want to be sitting down for this one.

Your favorite chips are getting a massive makeover — on the inside. Sure, Doritos Locos tacos are great, but why stop there? Why not create something truly craveable and nasty in all the right ways? Fortunately, somebody did.

Introducing Doritos Loaded:

These monstrously delicious snacks that are half nachos and half mozzarella sticks will be available in a grocery store near you very soon, according to Delish.

You might have seen (or even tried) these giant stuffed chips at 7-Eleven back in 2014 or at Burger King in 2015, when the company was testing them out, but now you can pick up a box and make them at home. Not only are they probably cheaper than getting them out, but you’ll also save yourself the embarrassment of having to ask the store clerk to grab those super unhealthy, possible self-loathing snacks from the hot-food window for you. Oh, and they’ll be fresh and crispy, not soggy and dry from sitting on the hot tray for probably hours on end.

Starting on Nov. 6 — National Nachos Day — you’ll be able to pick up boxes upon boxes of this stuff (hey, you might as well stock up, right?) at grocery stores around the nation. You’ll have two options: Nacho Cheese (the flavor you might have encountered in the past) and Jalapeno Cheese, both of which have crispy, cheesy Doritos crusts and are filled with gooey, melted cheese.

The folks over at Delish gave them a try and said the cheesy triangles may not be perfect, but they are pretty darn close, and they recommend them. The best part? The super-crunchy outer crust.

“Though the centers weren’t as gooey as we’d hoped, you get a good amount of cheese inside and the flavor of crushed Doritos in the breading,” wrote Delish’s Hannah Doolin. “The Jalapeno Cheese were definite favorites, with real pieces of jalapeno inside and a serious kick that we loved.”

It certainly sounds like an improvement on the ones straight out of 7-Eleven’s warming plate, which Julie Alvin of Bustle once described as “lukewarm, mushy, and felt like an old chicken nugget to the touch.”

Let us know if you give them a try!

Doritos Is Getting Into The Halloween Spirit With Black Garlic Chips

category:

By Cooking Panda

It’s that time of year again, when food companies are running their seasonal spooky-themed foods and snacks. Remember last year’s spooky black Whopper from Burger King? Well, this year it’s Frito-Lay who has decided to debut a Halloween-themed snack. Black, garlic-flavored Doritos…You know, to keep away the vampires.

The black garlic-and-pepper-flavored Doritos are currently available only in Japan, so if the rest of us are attacked by vampires, we’re out of luck. Really? How fair is that?

According to Nerdist, we can try ordering the vampire-repelling Doritos from JList or napajapan.com, so that’s a little more comforting, I guess.

Bloody Disgusting reports that this isn’t Doritos’ first attempt at a black chip, but it’s definitely the most interesting one. In 2014, Doritos tested the “Rock’n’Black” flavor as well, which consists of pepper and rock salt. Although it wasn’t a hit, these vampire repelling garlic chips for October seem pretty safe.

And although you probably want to reek of garlic if you’re trying to keep away vampires, they say the taste is pretty strong, so I’d definitely recommend chewing on some raw apple, lettuce or mint to cure the garlic breath…after you’ve reached safety, of course. Or if you’re going on a date.

As tasty as garlic is, we don’t honestly want to walk around smelling like it. Unless we’re going as Van Helsing for Halloween.

It’s A Bird! It’s A Plane! No, It’s Just Burger King’s Latest Steakhouse-Dorito Burger

category:

By Cooking Panda

With Burger King’s long history of pumping out frankenfoods, it was only a matter of time before this happened.

After unveiling the Whopperito on innocent Americans, Burger King is now reinforcing that it is, in fact, the king of culinary monstrosities.

Allow us to formally introduce you to Burger King’s latest foray into unnecessary food hybrids: a steakhouse burger topped with Doritos.

Per The Street, the folks manning the test kitchens at Restaurant Brands International — incidentally, also the owners of Burger King — are testing out their new burger on unsuspecting customers in Spain.

The burger comes with two meat patties generously smothered in American cheese. Not only does it come with all the usual fixings (think lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise), but it is topped with a handful of classic Doritos, which somehow manage to maintain their crunch and resist getting soggy under the weight of tomatoes and lettuce.

While a spokeswoman for RBI did not return a request for comment, The Street reports that an alternate source close to the matter said that the new burger is actually a limited-time offering, and will be available at all Burger King establishments in Spain until Nov. 21.

As it happens, Spain is actually one of Burger King’s largest European markets, which explains why the chain has decided to run its promotional offer over there; however, I don’t think any of us would be surprised to see the steakhouse/Dorito chimera making its way over to U.S. soil if the test run goes well.

This is the land of the Mac N’ Cheetos, and home of the Whopperito, after all.
