Billionaire Issues Reward For Scoop On Ice-Cream Thieves
By Cooking Panda
I scream, you scream, we all scream f — thieves!! At least, New York City grocery stores do.
The city’s ice-cream pints have fallen victim to more than 250 reported robberies this year, according to the New York Post.
The crooks have achieved such notoriety that billionaire John Catsimatidis, who owns Manhattan grocery chain Gristedes Foods, has issued a $5,000 reward for information on the criminals.
The thieves, Catsimatidis said, swipe ice cream from his stores and give it to bodegas, which resell the ice cream illegally for a lower price.
“They keep stealing it because it’s an easy item to sell,’’ he said. “The bodegas buy it; they encourage it.”
On August 10, a man and woman stole 80 cartons of Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream from a Gristedes store, stuffing the loot into four bags before running out.
Someone in the store took a picture of one of the thieves on their way out.
They didn’t make it far; workers chased the bodega bandits and took back the ice cream. Store manager Robert Montalvo said he got a look at the duo before they fled.
“The guy said, ‘We got this from another store.’” Montalvo said. “I’m like, ‘Really?’”
He added that they were “drugged-out looking.”
At a bodega near the Gristedes, The Post found pints of Ben & Jerry’s going for $5, $1 lower than the retail price.
Police, who have made 130 arrests for ice-cream thefts this year, said the incident fits the citywide pattern.
While bad for business owners, the thefts also pose a health risk. Ice cream often melts on its journey from grocery stores to bodegas before it’s refrozen, which causes germs to breed in each pint.
The pints in the nearby bodega, according to The Post, were covered in frost, suggesting they’d gotten freezer burn.
“[It] looks like it’s been out in the sun for an hour and refrozen,” said Andy Chung, 22, a waiter who works near the bodega.
Paying a dollar less for pricey ice cream is an enticing deal, but no one likes their ice cream… icy. The fact that it’s stolen, others say, is also a buzzkill.
“I try to be conscientious about my purchases,” said student Sam Nowak. “I’m all about fair-trade coffee, humanely farmed poultry, stuff like that … I’m not going to buy it,” he said of the smuggled ice cream.crime, ice cream, New York, thieves
Your Avocado Toast Might Have Been Made With Stolen Avocados
By Cooking Panda
Ever-growing appetites for avocados are causing a surge in crime in New Zealand.
There have been nearly 40 large-scale thefts from avocado orchards on the country’s North Island reported since January, according to The Guardian.
Thieves have stolen as many as 350 avocados at a time.
Local growers are focused mainly on the export market and have been unable to meet the booming demand for the versatile fruit, according to the country’s official avocado website, New Zealand Avocado. More than 95,000 New Zealand households added avocados to their grocery lists in 2015.
The demand, combined with results from a poor growing season in 2015, has the fruit selling for around $2.80 to $4.20 each. That’s a steep price for hungry brunch-goers seeking trendy avocado toast.
Thieves have visited farms late at night, either raking avocados from trees and bundling them in sheets or plucking them by hand. The stolen fruit then ends up in road-side stalls, grocery stores or small food shops.
Sergeant Aaron Fraser of Waihi on the island’s northeastern coast said he’s never seen such sustained avocado theft during his career.
“…[W]ith prices so high at the moment, the potential for profit is a strong inducement for certain individuals,” he said.
New Zealand Avocado CEO Jen Scoular said that while the thefts are concerning, the improved avocado season should yield plenty of fruit in the next few weeks, lowering prices back to normal.
She added that farmers have installed lights and alarm systems to deter thieves.
“It’s an easy way to make a quick buck, but I don’t think we are dealing with a sophisticated or highly organized operation here, more opportunistic,” she said.avocado, crime, New Zealand, theft
13-Year-Old Leaves To Go On Date, Quickly Discovers That’s Not What’s Going To Happen
By Cooking Panda
Two Virginia Tech students disturbingly admitted to killing a 13-year-old girl.
David Eisenhauer and Natalie Keepers were arrested and charged in the death of Nicole Lovell, who was found dead after the two lured her from her home with the promise of a date.
Eisenhauer began talking to Lovell online in December 2015. Their conversations became more personal in January. He reportedly visited her house to meet her, gave her a side hug and then left.
Eisenhauer and Keepers reportedly met at a fast food restaurant to plan the killing, brainstorming several ways they could murder her that included drugging, knocking her out, making her death appear to be a suicide or making it seem like she died from the cold weather. They also discussed a location to drop off the body.
“As long as nobody finds the body for a week,” one text from Eisenhauer read, the Roanoke Times reported.
Keepers told police she became involved in the murder plot because she developed a bond with Eisenhauer.
“She said she was part of a special club,” Blacksburg detective Ryan Hite testified in court. “It was the best club in the world because he understood her. She made reference to David Eisenhauer as a ‘sociopath’ and she was his ‘sociopath in training.’”
Once Eisenhauer left the restaurant where the two met to discuss the plan, Keepers said she believed he was going to Lovell’s home to kill her. The next morning, he allegedly sent her a text that read, “it’s done,” WDJB reported. Keepers said she never met Lovell, and that Eisenhauer killed her by slitting her throat.
Keepers admitted to agreeing to helping Eisenhauer clean up the body because she was used to taking care of her sick family, the Daily Mail reported. They disposed of the body by taking off the teen’s clothes, wiping her body clean and placing the clothes in a Walmart bag. They then pushed her body down in an embankment.Tags: crime, Murder, Natalie Keepers, Nicole Lovell, Sociopath
Rapist Forces Victim To Call Boyfriend During Attack, Gets Unexpected Surprise
By Cooking Panda
A Clayton County, Georgia, rape victim potentially saved her own life when she dialed 911 after her rapist forced her to call her boyfriend and make him listen to the attack.
On December 28, 2015. 27-year-old Robert Giles kidnapped the victim in Hapeville and brought her to a closed adult entertainment store. Giles then led the woman into the back of the store and prepared to rape her, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
He then forced the woman to call her boyfriend so he could listen to the rape occurring.
Instead of calling her boyfriend, the victim dialed 911 and told Giles that it was her boyfriend. The 911 operator played along.
“She explained to him [the 911 operator] what the perpetrator had told her; that he was wanting him to listen while she was being raped,” Clayton County Maj. Joe Woodall said.
“It was quick thinking on his behalf,” Woodall added. “In fact, [it] might have saved her life.”
The operator, who attempted to talk Giles out of raping the woman, sent police to the location. Officers caught him in the act.
“They were able to stop it right then and there and snatched him right from the car,” Woodall said.
Giles was arrested and charged with rape, false imprisonment and obstruction. Kidnapping charges were also planned.Tags: 911, boyfriend, crime, rape, victim

Police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, arrested a 17-year-old accused of raping a 13-year-old girl who later tested positive for HIV.
The teen had a warrant issued for him for first-degree rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile. The warrant came after the alleged victim went to a hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana, because she began having suicidal thoughts. The boy turned himself in shortly after, reports The Advocate.
After getting a blood test, the girl was found to be HIV positive, reports WVUE. She then told police the boy raped her while at her uncle’s home in Baton Rouge.
According to the girl, the incident began when she was in a bedroom with some cousins and friends. As others began to leave, the victim tried to do the same.
The teen then allegedly grabbed her, pulled her into the room and shut the door. He picked her up, pushed her onto the bed, held down her arms and raped her.
The girl reportedly screamed several times but loud music outside prevented anyone from hearing her. The arrest warrant stated that the teen boy previously sent the girl an Instagram message attempting to get her phone number.
The girl was hospitalized twice for suicidal thoughts following the incident.Baton Rouge, crime, HIV, rape

An Ohio couple was arrested after posting Facebook photos where they posed with the thousands of dollars in cash; the money was allegedly from a local bank.
John Mogan, 28, and Ashley Duboe, 24, were charged with robbing a Savings Bank in Ashville, Ohio, Daily Mail reported. Mogan reportedly walked into the bank wearing a black hoodie, which covered several facial tattoos, and handed the bank teller a note.
The teller then handed Mogan an undisclosed amount of cash, and he proceeded to leave.
One week later, Mogan posted photos to his Facebook page with a giant wad of cash in his mouth. A relative commented on the photos, asking him to “hook a brother up.”
Several other photos were posted with the money, including one with his girlfriend pictured as well.
Information regarding the Facebook photos made its way to police, which led them to Mogan. A background search found that Mogan had recently been released from prison after another bank robbery in 2010.
Morgan and Duboe were subsequently arrested and charged with robbery, a third degree felony. They were also charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony. Mogan faces at least four years in prison.
Duboe’s role in the robbery, despite being charged with the same offenses as her boyfriend, was not disclosed.
They are both being held on $250,000 bond.ashley duboe, bank robbery, crime, Dumbest Criminals, John Mogan
This Man Attacked And Scalped His Ex-Girlfriend – And That Wasn’t Even The Worst Part
By Cooking Panda
A Walton, Kentucky, man is accused of ripping off the scalp of his ex-girlfriend with the help of his dog.
Zachary Gross, 30, allegedly attacked Marilyn Stanley inside his home, FOX 19 reports.
For nearly an hour, Gross physically abused Stanley. When she refused to drop a knife she was using for self-defense, he allegedly urged his dog to attack her, Boone County Sheriff’s spokesman Tom Scheben said.
The argument began over a Facebook post Stanley made that angered Gross.
Part of Stanley’s ear and scalp were torn off by the dog.
Gross forced Stanley to look in the mirror following the attack while he ridiculed her appearance.
After the attack, Stanley was driven by Gross to her mother’s home, where he left her in the front yard with a plastic bag containing part of her scalp.
About 80 percent of the woman’s scalp was detached from her head, her eyes were swollen to the size of baseballs, and she had a broken nose.
Stanley has since undergone multiple surgeries.
“I’ve been physically changed for the rest of my life,” she said.
The GoFundMe page set up by a friend of the victim details the horrific attack she endured.
“Out of fear, she walked into his house to feel the force of his fist against her face, followed by a brutal beating to the rest of her body and legs to her now cracked ribs,” the page reads. “This demon of a man forced her to his bedroom where his pit bull violently attacked her upon his command. As a result the dog took portions of her ears that would later have to be stitched back on, and to leave some missing. As the dog was ripping in to her face and head, this man took something sharp cutting into her main artery and that wasn’t the worst of it, he cut into her scalp leaving her with 70% of her skull exposed.”
The dog has been sent to the pound after being classified as a vicious animal.

McDonald’s Employee Takes Drastic Measures When Drunk Customer Refuses To Leave (Video)
By Cooking Panda
A video has been posted on Youtube capturing the moment when an employee of a McDonald’s store in East Lansing, Michigan, knocked out a customer with a single punch.
The incident occurred early last Thursday at around 3 a.m at the McDonald’s on Grand River Avenue. A Michigan State University student was hurt in the altercation, but his injuries were not life threatening.
Witnesses described how the student entered the store and proceeded to spit on the counter. This prompted a comment from an employee which drew an angry response from the student, who threw a “caution: wet floor” sign at the worker.
Kevin Lange, who recorded the video, said that another worker was called from the back to escort the student out, and that was when things got out of control.
After the worker dressed in black pushed the student over while escorting him out, the student turned on him. According to Lange, the student appeared “startled and ready to pick a fight.”
The worker dressed in blue then intervened, knocking the customer to the floor with a single blow.
While acknowledging that the student’s behavior had been provocative, Lange questioned the response.
“He definitely instigated it,” Lange said of the student. “But, it got taken too far. He didn’t have to get punched. He could have got pushed out and told not to come back.”
Observers helped tend to his injuries, which included a large gash on his head. He was later taken to hospital.
According to East Lansing police spokesman Steve Gonzalez, no further information on the incident could be released since investigations are still on-going. The student filed a criminal complaint, Gonzalez said.
At this point in time they’re still tying up loose ends on it, then they’ll refer it to the prosecutor’s office for review,” he said.Assault, crime, mcdonald's, Police, Punch
