Is your mouth watering? Well, get ready — because it’s about to start.
Walt Disney World Resort has a new fast casual restaurant called Satu’li Canteen, which can be found in the park’s Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Basically, the amazing and creative chefs behind the effort watched “Avatar” and were so inspired by the lithe and otherworldly beauty of the Na’vi that they modeled two seriously deluxe and miraculous-looking desserts after the characters.
They drew inspiration from the Na’vi colors (namely, shades of blue) to concoct gorgeous desserts such as the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse, described by the Disney Parks website as a cream cheese and blueberry dish with passion fruit, which is meant to tie back to the film’s tropical setting.
“We watched ‘Avatar’ and noted that the Na’vi are in stellar shape — very lean, with beautiful skin and bright yellow eyes,” Executive Pastry Chef Stefan Riemer said.
Next, up comes the Chocolate Cake with a Crunchy Cookie, Banana Cream and Goji Berries.
“We used dark chocolate because it’s rich in antioxidants, then add a little crunch with a cookie wafer and the contrast of creamy mousse,” Riemer explains, saying that all the healthy components are meant to be a nod to how in-shape the Na’vi seem to be.
The cake is simple, but not lacking in flavor, and composed of cream, white chocolate, bananas, and topped with banana cream and a drizzle of lemon.
“The chocolate-banana is a great flavor combination,” Riemer said. “Then we added goji berry on top — it tastes a little like a raisin, and we hydrated it with simple syrup. The taste of the goji berry with the banana cream and chocolate is a lovely balance of flavors.”
Of course, if the gorgeous photos don’t whet your appetite, perhaps the praise Riemer has already received for his desserts from various children taste-testers will convince you.
“We got a thumbs-up for both desserts!” he said on the Disney Parks website.
