Some meals are very hard to resist, Loco Moco With Mushroom Gravy happens to be one of them. There is no way you won’t enjoy this classic Hawaiian comfort food. It is not only delicious; it is also satisfying. You must give this yummy recipe a try! This classic meal consists of steamed rice topped with juicy hamburger steak, fried eggs, and smothered in a flavorful mushroom gravy. Even though the best time to take this meal is early in the morning, it doesn’t mean you can’t make it anytime you wish. It is delicious, always. What a perfect way to dress up your ground beef patties!

For the hamburger patties, you will need lean ground beef, salt, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and extra virgin olive oil. For the mushroom gravy part, you will need unsalted butter, thinly sliced garlic cloves, shiitake mushrooms with their stems removed and thinly sliced, all-purpose flour, chicken or vegetable stock, salt, and pepper are also needed for the mushroom gravy. Meanwhile, for fried eggs, you will need unsalted butter and eggs. Lastly, to serve, get furikake seasoning, rice, and thinly sliced chives in place.

You can vary the recipe of this dish as much as you want. Instead of ground beef, you can use ground turkey to make turkey patties. Slices of spam can be fried up and take the place of the hamburger patties as well. If you want a caramelized onion gravy, replace mushrooms with caramelized onions. What if white rice is not available? Feel free to use brown rice. Likewise, instead of chives, you can make use of green onions to finish the dill. The choice is all yours.

It is time to prepare this Hawaiian meal. Let’s dive into the world of Loco Moco With Mushroom Gravy!

For the hamburger patties: in a mixing bowl, add beef, garlic powder, salt, black pepper together, and mix. Then season it with salt and pepper. Now, pour oil into a skillet and place over medium-high heat; once the skillet becomes hot, add your burger patties, sear them, and cook until the burgers are eventually done. This should take you approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Once the patties are done, remove them from the skillet, cover it with foil, and set aside.

Now, prepare the mushroom gravy; add butter to a saucepan and heat it up over medium-high heat. Then add garlic, mushrooms, and sauté until the mushrooms are lightly caramelized (this should take about 3 minutes)—season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue stirring the mixture until the gravy thickens, and there is no more lump. Add more seasonings, and set it aside.

For the egg part, add butter to your skillet and fry the eggs for about 4-5 minutes or until the egg whites have set and edges are crisp. Once you notice this, remove from heat and set aside.

Finally, assemble everything together- divide your rice into two, top each one of them with a burger patty, a ladle of gravy, a fried egg, and another ladle of gravy. Round each dish up with a sprinkle of furikake seasoning and sliced chives.

Your meal is ready, serve, and enjoy!
