The key to the perfect charcuterie board isn’t only choosing the best ingredients. Taking the time to arrange everything so it’s aesthetically pleasing will be sure to set your board apart! First, choose a nice wooden cheese board or cutting board to use as your serving platter. Then, you’ll want to start with your bread (using a thinly sliced baguette is a good choice), crackers, and nut crisps. Fan out the pieces, a little here and there all over the board. Next, add your yummy jellies, jams, and spreads! Don’t just plop a blob of these directly on the board. If you have a small condiment dish that will work perfectly. If you have a large board you can place it directly on the board, otherwise setting it nicely beside the board will work wonderfully.
Your next addition is the cheese! There are so many amazing cheeses to choose from, and they are truly the shining star of any good charcuterie board. Be sure to go for a variety of cheeses so everyone can find something they like. Different textures and flavors are key! Add a few slices of each cheese to the board. Remember to continue arranging everything neatly. You’ll add cured meats to your board just as you did with cheeses. You’ll again want a variety – some great choices are salami, mortadella and prosciutto. Arrange the meats in between the cheeses to encourage folks to try different combinations!
Your board should be looking pretty tasty at this point, but it’s time to add some savory treats to balance all the meat and cheese. This is a good opportunity to incorporate color as well. Olives, pickles, and veggies like carrots and radishes are all perfect!
Finally, add some nuts and fruit to really round out your board. Berries and grapes are classic choices, as well as dried apples! Pistachios, almonds, and walnuts are all nuts with strong flavors that will pair well with the meats and cheeses you choose.
That’s a wrap! Now invite some pals over, and enjoy!
