Spring is in the air, and that means Easter candy is beginning to line the shelves. Whether this is your favorite season or not, the iconic Cadbury Creme Eggs are surely calling your name.
Aside from Peeps, there may be no other candy that represents this season more than the Cadbury Egg, and the U.K. brand has been experimenting plenty this year with new ideas. Remember the Oreo version? The newest trend for “best way to eat a Cadbury Creme Egg” is deep-fried, thanks to Simpson’s Fish & Chips in Cheltenham, England.
According to Cosmopolitan, Simpson’s will be serving up the deep-fried version of the egg until April 17, and they’ll be donating some of the proceeds to The British Hen Welfare Trust.
Take a look at this beauty:
This isn’t Simpson’s first year offering the deep-fried Cadbury Creme Egg, and I feel safe to guess it probably won’t be the last, either … since it’s obviously much loved by fans. The chips shop offered up the treat last year, and felt that last year’s success meant this year was a must-do.
“Following on from the success of last year, we thought why not do it again and help raise money for another worthy cause,” said James Ritchie, Simpson’s co-founder, according to Metro News.
That great cause is a program responsible for rehoming over half a million hens, and promoting British free-range farmers. Honestly, it’s a cause that deserves a lot more attention and some major props.
Having said all of that … just how do they achieve this fried chocolate egg perfection?
“Putting our own twist on the classic Creme Egg was great fun and we learnt last year that timing is key — frying the batter so it’s deliciously crispy and lightly warming the egg but ensuring it stays firm,” says Ritchie.
If you don’t live anywhere near the lucky town of Cheltenham, you might try and take on this task at home. Create your own perfect frying recipe and go crazy. I know I will!
