Twenty years after the first novel was released, Harry Potter still garners die-hard Potter fans longing to bring Hogwarts magic to the real world.
There’s the United States Quidditch Association, which is an actual sports organization that oversees more than 100 leagues in the U.S. The mythical Harry Potter-inspired sport combines aspects of lacrosse, dodgeball and rugby.
And in Poland, the Czocha College of Wizardry holds a live-action role playing event over four days where students experience an immersive wizard education at a Hogwarts-themed school in a real castle. Such events exist throughout the country and are bred from a hell-bent fandom.
So, no surprise then that, in addition to a real-life wizarding school and real-life Quidditch leagues, we also find less intense (but totally delicious) commendations of J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts: Doughnuts. Butterbeer Donuts.
Sugar Shack’s butterscotch-creme soda hybrid is the newest, most anticipated offering available at all Sugar Shack locations for the month of October, according to Delish. The biggest appeal is the golden snitch floating in the center of the golden, star-studded glazed donut. “The flying orb is made from a donut hole that’s been dunked in a shimmery, golden glaze and finished with vanilla fondant wings,” Delish reports.
Sugar Shack Donuts and Coffee locations in Alexandria, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., have already rolled out the new donut, but a little wait-time will be required of East Coasters, for now.
Butterbeer Donuts are not available yet, but Sugar Shack did announce on Instagram that on Oct. 5 the donut shop will be giving away a free house donut when you bring in a Harry Potter novel (“Physical books only, no ebooks”).
Sugar Shack commented on the Instagram post, announcing that the donuts will be available October 14-15 and 21-22. “Preorders strongly recommended by calling your local Sugar Shack.”
If you’re not in the Virginia, Washington, D.C., or Florida area, there are DIY alternatives. Food blogger Adelle Belnap posted on Get Away Today a recipe for “The Best Butterbeer and Golden Snitch Donuts,” and I solemnly swear these look delicious (and require moderate effort; no magic or charms required.)Golden Snitch Donuts, Harry Potter golden snitch, Sugar Shack
