A Clayton County, Georgia, rape victim potentially saved her own life when she dialed 911 after her rapist forced her to call her boyfriend and make him listen to the attack.

On December 28, 2015. 27-year-old Robert Giles kidnapped the victim in Hapeville and brought her to a closed adult entertainment store. Giles then led the woman into the back of the store and prepared to rape her, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

He then forced the woman to call her boyfriend so he could listen to the rape occurring.

Instead of calling her boyfriend, the victim dialed 911 and told Giles that it was her boyfriend. The 911 operator played along.

“She explained to him [the 911 operator] what the perpetrator had told her; that he was wanting him to listen while she was being raped,” Clayton County Maj. Joe Woodall said.

“It was quick thinking on his behalf,” Woodall added. “In fact, [it] might have saved her life.”

The operator, who attempted to talk Giles out of raping the woman, sent police to the location. Officers caught him in the act.

“They were able to stop it right then and there and snatched him right from the car,” Woodall said.

Giles was arrested and charged with rape, false imprisonment and obstruction. Kidnapping charges were also planned.
