Pumpkin Spice Pizza Exists For Some Awful Reason (Photo)

The list of foods that people make with pumpkin spice in the fall gets longer and stranger every year. But here’s one that might just blow all of the other novelty foods out of the water: pumpkin spice pizza.

Let me repeat myself: pumpkin spice pizza.

That is not a typo, sadly. And you can pick up the stuff at more than 200 locations of Villa Italian Kitchen across the nation.

“We are excited to celebrate the official kickoff of fall with the launch of the Pumpkin Spice Pizza,” said Mimi Wunderlich, director of Communications and Digital Marketing Strategy for Villa Italian Kitchen, according to Gwinnett Daily Post.

While supplies last, the limited-edition pie is available for $4.09 per slice, and you can buy it starting on the first day of fall, September 22.

The handmade dough base comes smothered with pumpkin pie filling spiced with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon where you’d typically find sauce. Then it gets topped with mozzarella cheese as if nothing unusual just happened underneath.

Just in case there isn’t already enough pumpkin on the dang thing, additional dollops are added on top “for the perfect marriage of a classic cheese pizza and everyone’s favorite fall flavor,” said a Villa rep.

But, like many discerning people across the nation, you might be asking a simple question: WHYYYYYYYYYYYY??????

“There’s no denying that everyone loves pizza, so combining our hit Neapolitan Cheese Slice with the delicious fall flavors of pumpkin spice just made sense,” Wunderlich explained. “We are confident that this seasonal twist on our beloved cheese pizza will be a hit with all of our pumpkin spice loving guests this fall.”

The folks over at WTKR were brave enough to taste it early one morning and gave it tentatively positive reviews, saying that “it’s a good concept” and “it tastes like pumpkin pie on a pizza.”

“It’s not terrible, it’s really not,” one reporter says with surprise. “I thought it was going to be more weird than it is, but it kind of tastes like that cinnamon toast? You don’t really taste the cheese.”

Not terrible, you say? Count me in.
