Oreo seems to be taking over every exciting food headline.

First, there was the return of Oreo O's cereal in the U.S. Next there was the release of limited-time only fun Oreo flavors (Jelly Donut Oreos, anyone?)

Now, on the first day of summer, Oreo is already getting us excited about winter.

Forget that plate of Oreos that you leave out for Santa, and welcome Oreos Cookies and Creme CANDY CANES.

That's right. Oreo candy canes.

On June 21, popular junk food Instagram account Candy Hunting revealed that these Oreo-themed candy canes will be released by Spangler for the 2017 holiday season.

You can't dip them in milk (well, you could, but that'd be gross) or lick off the creme, but you can stuff them in stockings and sweeten any holiday gathering.

But don't get too excited yet, because you won't be able to get your hands (or tongues) on them for another six months.

"Christmas preview: New Oreo Cookies & Creme candy canes! I highly doubt these will taste like Oreos, but hey, why not brand everything with Oreo to boost sales?" reads the caption on Candy Hunting's Instagram post.

Well said, Candy Hunting, well said. Maybe I should try branding my used textbooks with Oreo themes so someone will buy them (just kidding Nabisco, just kidding).

Seriously though, what a Christmas miracle it would be if these candy canes tasted exactly like regular Oreos.

It would be just like eating regular Oreos, but more magical and in a candy cane shape.

At least we know from the photo that they are decorated in Oreo colors. The rich brown of the Oreo wafer mingles perfectly with the light creme color of the Oreo filling on the shiny, smooth curves of the candy cane body.

Okay, maybe getting a little too into it.

Nabisco, Oreo's parent company, has not yet confirmed the release of the Oreo-flavored candy canes, according to Delish.

But what a cruel and unusual joke it would be if this were all a hoax. Or maybe it would be better if this latest creation weren't unleashed on the world.

Delicious or preposterous? Or deliciously preposterous?
