Is it true?

“Yes, it’s true!” posts food Instagram account Junk Banter. “Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Oreos are a real thing headed our way.”

The famed Nabisco cookie goes classic — a peanut butter and chocolate pie flavor that Junk Banter called an “inferior version of the fabulous, legendary, please-bring-them-back Reese’s Oreos.” But, that’s one person’s opinion. We’ll all have to try them ourselves, even if the logic sort of holds up.

Peanut butter-flavored Oreos are suffering a case of “been there, done that.” Before the pie-positioned flavor, there were Peanut Butter Oreos (chocolate cookies filled with peanut butter) and the prized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Oreo. The only major difference here is the graham cracker wafer cookies in the new pie flavor.

Like most of Oreo’s flavors, they will likely be around for a limited time, so while pining over Reese’s Oreos, nibble on a Reese’s alternative. After all, it’s still an Oreo stuffed with peanut butter filling. And, who doesn’t love a slice of pie?

While on the subject of pies, Christmas is at our heels and will be here before you know it (as it happens every year). Aside from choosing the ugliest of sweaters and planning for the furor of holiday air travel, there is pie to consider. Flavor, ingredients, execution and toppings all open for scrutiny and questioning (just like the topic of your love life at family dinner, all before appetizers hit the plates). It is vital to choose your pie well, especially if that pie will share a table with extended family that flew in just for the occasion.

Dinner guests will probably bombard you with questions like, “Why this specific pie,” “How did you come across this pie recipe,” “Is this pie the one,” followed by a well-meaning but curt observation that it’s been several years since you brought a pie home.

If that all seems too stressful, as the holidays tend to be, don’t sweat it. No one says you have to bring a pie home for the holidays. Of course, some people do bring a pie home and they go ignored (banana cream pie, blueberry pie — heaven forbid you bring a spinach pie!).

There’s always the easiest, less stressful option: the pie-flavored Oreo — easy to make and just as good as a real slice.
