Instagram Suspends Woman’s Account For Posting Photo Of Cake
By Cooking Panda
An Instagram user had her account disabled after she posted a photo of a cake that allegedly violated the app’s guidelines.
“My Mum was really proud of the cake, so shared a photo of it on her Instagram with, ‘Jenny’s fabulous Easter Simnel cake — delicious,'” Fiona, the daughter of London-based mother Sue Moseley, told Mashable.
“The next time she tried opening up Instagram on her phone she received an Error notification that said her account had been disabled for violating their terms.”
Moseley appealed the violation and let Instagram know that they made a mistake. She then received a reply back via email.
“Your account has been disabled for not following the Instagram Community Guidelines, and we won’t be able to reactivate it. We disable accounts that post content that is sexually suggestive or contains nudity,” the email said.
“We understand that people have different ideas about what’s okay to share on Instagram, but to keep Instagram safe, we require everyone to follow our guidelines. “
Fiona said that she believes the app has “some kind of recognition software that flags anything that looks remotely like a naked body part.”
“My Mum was really sad about it as she has lost all her Instagram photos and her account. She’s the loveliest person and only posts photos of her family, holidays and food and for that they’ve suspended her,” she said. “I’m on a mission to get her account back. So far, I’ve not had any reply from Instagram.”
A spokesperson for Instagram subsequently provided a statement to Mashable regarding the incident.
“We made a mistake here and restored the account as soon as we learned about it. Our apologies go out to Sue Moseley for the trouble we caused her,” the statement read.
