How to Peel Garlic The Smart Way

Peel By Knife

Get a garlic bulb and separate the cloves. Simply pull one off and cut away the papery skin. Then, cut away the brown top of the garlic. Lay the clove on the flat side and press the flat side of the knife on the clove. Peel away the skin and wash your hands.

Peel By Water

Remove cloves from the head of the garlic as well as any skin that can be easily peeled. Soak the cloves in cold water for five minutes and make sure they are fully submerged in the water. You can even use a metal whisk to beat the water and make the process faster. Then, remove the cloves from the water and remove the skin, which should be loose.

Peel By Microwave

Remove the cloves from the head of garlic, but make sure not to microwave the entire head. Put the cloves you’d like to use in the microwave for 5 to 10 seconds on a small plate. While in the microwave, you should notice the skin billowing and loosening up. Remove the cloves from the microwave and cut away the remaining skin. It should slide off easily.

Peel By Shaking

Place the entire head of garlic in a bowl. Cover the bowl with an identical bowl to form a larger “sealed” bowl. Hold the edges of both bowls together and shake, letting the garlic shake inside for 1 to 2 minutes. Make sure to shake vigorously. Then, open the bowls and remove the skin, which should be scattered in the bowls.

Reseal the bowls and shake again. Once you remove the bowls, all the skins should be removed this time. If not, try soaking the cloves in water to remove the remaining skin.
