Hi-C’s Ecto Cooler Makes A Triumphant Return For New Ghostbusters Movie
By Cooking Panda
It’s finally here, ya’ll.
The new Ghostbusters movie is slated to hit theaters July 15, and to celebrate the momentous relaunch, food and beverage companies are offering their own Ghostbusters-themed snacks and drinks for consumers.
One company, however, chose not to manufacture anything new, and has instead decided to re-release their 1990s classic drink.
The Coca-Cola Company has heard the countless pleas of Ghostbusters-fans, and officially brought back the Hi-C Ecto-Cooler from its retirement.
The original Hi-C Ecto-Cooler hit the shelves as a tie-in with the original Ghostbusters movie, when the slimy ghost-character of the cartoon series (aptly named Slimer) was added to the juice box. The drink was so popular that Hi-C continued to brand the drink with Ecto Cooler until 2001 — long after your typical juice-box clientele knew who the slimy character was, or what movie he haunted.
“Hi-C Ecto Cooler fueled a pop culture phenomenon that is well remembered and beloved by fans to this day,” Charles Torrey, vice president, Minute Maid/Hi-C Brands, Coca-Cola North America, said in the Coca-Cola press release. “Sony Pictures was extremely enthusiastic about bringing it back for this special occasion, and the timing of the upcoming Ghostbusters film made this the exact right time.”
The drink will be sold in 10-packs of 6-ounce juice boxes, as well as in 6- and 12-packs of 11.5-oz. aluminum cans. Available in select locations including major online retailers, the cans will feature thermal ink printing technology — when you freeze the cans, they’ll actually turn a slimy, eerie shade of green.
“We’re really excited about these cans,” said Shannon Richmond, brand director, Minute Maid, Coca-Cola North America. “When we decided to re-launch Hi-C Ecto Cooler, we wanted to do more than bring back the nostalgic juice boxes everyone knows… we wanted to offer something new and fun to reward fans who passionately lobbied us to bring back their beloved brand.”
And as for how they stack up to the original?
“It reminds me of the ‘Ghostbusters’ back in the day,” said one Chew on This taster, as reported by Fox News. “I like it a lot… Definitely brings back memories.”coca-cola company, ecto cooler, ghostbusters, hi-c
