Dolce And Gabbana Release $33,000 Luxury Refrigerators
By Cooking Panda
Luxury Italian fashion company Dulce and Gabbana is known for starting expensive trends with their high end clothing, but now they’re moving into the kitchen with their latest endeavor.
The designers teamed up with Italian retro fridge manufacturer Smeg to create the most fashionable refrigerators they could envision. If you like bright colors and medieval scenes, and you have a ton of cash to drop at a moment’s notice, one of these stunners could be yours for a mere $33,000 each.
No thanks, you say, I’d rather buy a brand-new Mercedes for that price. We get that. But join us in admiring the detail in each Frigoifero d’Arte (“Refrigerator of Art”). There are only 100 of them in the world, and each was hand painted by local Sicilian artists, who spent roughly 240 hours decorating each one with scenes of Sicilian marionette theaters, horse-drawn carts, and famous historical battle scenes. What else would you want to store your perishables in?
The collection goes on display at world furniture exhibition Salone Internazionale Del Mobile in Milan, Italy, from April 12 to 17.
There’s no word on how long these last, or if they actually work better than regular refrigerators – we’d hate to snag one only for it to break a few years later – but then again, you probably aren’t buying one of these for convenience.
Smeg has collaborated in the past with other companies to design luxury ice boxes, though none so brightly colored or medieval as these. In the past, the Italian manufacturer has partnered with Swarovski to create a gold, crystal-adorned fridge – perfect for your gold-plated diamond Tupperware! They also teamed up with BMW to make a Mini Cooper-inspired fridge. So if you want an expensive novelty icebox but aren’t able to get your hands on one of these babies, don’t fret. We’ll hold our breath for that Smeg-Chanel collaboration.designer kitchen, Dolce and Gabbana, luxury refrigerator
