The new Cheerios cereal makes candy for breakfast acceptable.

Earlier this week, junk food enthusiast, candyhunting, unveiled the brand new Cheerios flavor via Instagram with a caption, “New Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios will be out soon! You heard it here first!”

Later, the official Cheerios Instagram account confirmed, that yes, a delicious new chocolate peanut butter cereal is “coming real soon,” and is brought to you by “heart healthy” General Mills Cheerios! The new flavor is set to release nationwide by late October, according to Delish, and will feature “dual-colored whole grain O’s sweetened with real cocoa and peanut butter.”

So sweet, it’ll be like chowing down spoonfuls of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. But, wait it’s Cheerios cereal, we can’t exactly call it a candy bar. Or can we?

Cheerios are made with 100 percent whole grain oats and often tagged as “part of a low fat diet.” We’re all familiar with the bright yellow Cheerios box: a red heart-shaped bowl, plastered on its face, brimming with toasted O’s that are “clinically proven to help reduce cholesterol.” Cheerios has stuck with this title for years now, so long in fact that Cheerios has become the household name for “healthy cereal.”

Under this guise, you are safe to eat bowl after bowl of Peanut Butter Cup cereal, free of judgment! “Part of a complete breakfast,” not so much. Part of a breakfast that includes extra sweet, chocolaty cereal milk, sounds more like it.

But if you’re eating candy-flavored cereal for what it really is, and if you’re willing to put it out there, into the unadulterated, deliciously salacious, world of candy-for-breakfast cereal, General Mills has an entire suite of peanut butter-flavored cereals for your candy-for-breakfast pleasure.

For one, there’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Puffs, which is just a puffier version of the new Peanut Butter Cup Cheerios. And General Mills Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, for a flatter and crispier alternative.

Take your pick. Whichever way you go, it’s all the same: peanut butter candy for breakfast. A breakfast of champions!
