Deep-fried Nutella Jaffle Ice Cream Sandwich

Jaffle – that certainly is a new word in our dictionary. Turns out, a jaffle is simply a fancy Australian term for a toastie or a grilled sandwich. For this recipe, we’re making a crazy concoction that involves a mixture of hot and cold ingredients, paired with sweet and salty goodness. So buckle up, because it’s going to be a crazy messy ride!
If you’ve had fried ice cream, this nutella ice cream jaffle is a similar concept but even better because it has mozzarella cheese! Talk about a unique combination, you’re having your meal AND dessert all in one.
In Columbia, people tend to melt their cheese in hot chocolate and enjoy it for dessert. This recipe takes that dessert to the next level by adding an element of crunchy fried goodness and dollops of ice cream. The key is to move quickly as you want your sandwich to be melty on the inside and crunchy on the outside when paired with ice cream. Don’t leave the sandwich at room temperature for too long or else the cheese will solidify and the sandwich will get soggy if it’s left soaked in the ice cream for too long.
If you don’t have a jaffle maker on hand, feel free to use a waffle maker or grill the sandwich the old fashioned way in a pan!
