The name of this recipe says it all, bread and butter – how could you ever resist either? Most good things involve carbs and copious amounts of butter, including this recipe. If you love bread and butter as much as we do, then you’ll love this.
Bread and butter pudding is a popular dessert in The United Kingdom and tastes very similarly to what Americans know as “french toast”. This recipe is essentially a baked casserole of egg custard soaked bread, laced with aromatic cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg spices. Traditionally, bread and butter pudding is made from stale bread as the use of fresh bread typically yields a soggier casserole. However, the traditional bread and butter pudding recipe has evolved over the years to incorporate different types of bread like brioche.
Some people may not think the standard amount of egg custard in the recipe is enough, therefore they tend to add on more custard, sauces, or cream to accompany the pudding when they serve it. If you want to get fancy, throw some fruit or some jam on top after it is done baking or weave dry fruits into the bread before popping the casserole into the oven. It’s totally up to your discretion!
