7-Eleven Canceled Free Slurpee Day This Year
By Cooking Panda
7-Eleven just canceled 7-Eleven Day, their annual in-store birthday celebration that lands on July 11 or 7/11 (get it?). According to a company news release, 7-Eleven Day attracted millions of customers annually, who lined up to nab 7-Eleven’s cold and refreshing b-day gift: a free Slurpee! The convenience store retailer decided to shelve 7-Eleven Day this year as they continue to practice social distancing protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“At 7‑Eleven, our top priority is the safety of customers, Franchisees and employees,” 7‑Eleven Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Marissa Jarratt said in the company release. “Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn’t feel right…This year, we have to make changes for the greater good. I hope you’ll join us for the in-person party next year.”
But don’t worry! Even though our favorite convenience-store holiday is canceled, you can still get yourself a free Slurpee this summer. Starting July 1, 7Rewards loyalty members will get one FREE medium Slurpee coupon via the 7-Eleven app. It’s redeemable the entire month of July. So you can visit your local 7-Eleven on your own time while still practicing social distancing in stores.

Customers can also get their goodies via delivery. Did you know 7-Eleven has its own delivery app? The 7Now app offers a contactless delivery option so you can still stock up on your essentials. From July 7 to July 11, whole pizzas are $5 (limit 2 pizzas per order). You can also redeem a FREE Slurpee drink with your order. Also, participating 7-Eleven stores are offering FREE delivery now through June 30.
And what else will 7-Eleven do to celebrate its 93rd birthday? This year, they’re gifting 1 million meals ($100,000) to Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief nonprofit in the U.S. Just $1 helps Feeding America secure at least 10 meals for member food banks.
“The Feeding America network of food banks has been on the ground addressing the increased need in their communities,” Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America said in 7-Eleven’s release. “We are thankful for 7‑Eleven’s generous donation during this challenging time for many of our neighbors in need.”
