Easy Ways to Garnish

You don’t have to do it old-school, carving vegetables and fruits, to be able to make the food presentable and yummy to the eyes. You can use simple garnishing styles to wow you and your guests’ senses. Here are some examples:

  1. Herbs – Use the leaves of the herbs. The most commonly used are parsley leaves, both curly and flat ones. Other herbs that can be used are thyme, tarragon, chives (either chopped or whole), mint (usually put in desserts), cilantro, basil (great for dishes with tomato), and a lot more.
  2. Pearls – a baller or a scooper is what you’ll need to create this garnish. Simply scoop out the flesh of fruits or vegetables like mango, papaya, cucumber, apple, melon, etc. Usually used for desserts, salads, cheese platter, and other dishes that call for fruit.
  3. Zest – scrape the skin of the citrus fruits with a zester. Examples of fruits you can use are lemon, lime, orange, etc.
  4. Dots, swirls, dashes – fill a squeeze bottle with the sauce you like to use as garnish and simply design your plain, white plate with patterns such as swirls, dots and dashes.
