• Steamed yam - 250 grams
  • Wheat flour -125 grams
  • Rice Flour - 250 grams
  • Warm water - two and half cups
  • Dried Prawns -120 grams
  • Fried Shallots - 50 grams
  • Salt - two teaspoons
  • Rock sugar - one tablespoon
  • White Pepper - one teaspoon
  • Five Spice powder - one teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil
  • Some freshly cut chilies and spring onions



Kuih is one of the best local cakes found in Malaysia, and here is a yam cake recipe that is the best rendition of this tasty delicacy. This recipe takes about an hour to prepare, and makes six servings.

 

Step 1: Mix wheat flour, rice flour, salt, white pepper, rock sugar, five-spice powder, warm water, and a tablespoon oil in a bowl.
Step 2: Now add in the steamed yam to the mixture and again mix thoroughly.
Step 3: Grease a steel plate with oil, which is at least 20 inches in diameter.
Step 4: Place the mixture in this plate, and steam for about 45 minutes, on high heat. Make sure you keep adding water to the steamer, when it runs low.
Step 5: Fry the dried prawns, shallots, spring onions, and chilies.
Step 6: Once the steamed dish has cooled, garnish the cake with the fried ingredients of step 5.
